If you currently receive Medicare due to a disability or you are over the age of 65, you will be getting a new Medicare care in the mail. To help prevent fraud, stealing and fight identity theft, Medicare is removing the older adult’s social security number off of the Medicare Card. YOUR NEW CARD WILL HAVE A NEW NUMBER that is unique only to you!
When is this going to happen? Medicare will be mailing new RED-WHITE and BLUE PAPER Medicare cards between April 2018 until April 2019. Card mailings will be staggered throughout the year and the timing will depend on where you live.
California is May 2018.
Newly eligible people will begin receiving the new cards starting this month. The table posted on the Medicare and Medicaid Services shows when the cards will be mailed to various recipients. You can check the status of your card or your loved one’s card at: http://medicare.gov/newcard.
